Welcome to Kelso

           
The Old Priory is a classic Georgian Town House sitting in two worlds, the frontage is on Woodmarket while the rear overlooks the Old Parish Church in Abbey Row, the Abbey and Abbey grounds are just at the end of Abbey Row. We have 5 bedrooms, two of which are on the Ground Floor for easy access but are not designed for disabled use. A family home with letting rooms.
Sir Walter Scott’s Great Grandfather was born in the building next door, and Sir Walter Scott stayed with his Aunt in a house just round the corner whilst going to school in Kelso. A walking trail around the town is available that will take you to places that you may not have gone to.
The Old Priory, is  a historic townhouse dating from 1796, we offer accommodation on a Bed and Breakfast basis and have been No.1 on TripAdvisor for 16 years in the town as well as Pick of the Town on Lonely Planet and other sites. We are perfectly situated for exploring the Borders and North Northumberland. Floors Castle, Monteviot House gardens, Paxton House, Mellerstain House, Manderston, Thirlstane Castle, Hermitage Castle, Abbotsford,  Alnwick Castle, famous for its new gardens and the background of the Harry Potter films, Bamburgh Castle, Norham Castle, Berwick on Tweed, St.Abbs Head, (Asgard in Thor),  Coldingham Bay and Lindisfarne, Holy Island are all within striking distance of Kelso.
The Border towns of Jedburgh, Hawick, Galashiels, Selkirk and Melrose are all a leisurely drive through our beautiful countryside. Edinburgh is 42 miles and Kelso is a great base if you want to explore Edinburgh. Newcastle ferry terminal is approx 60miles.

For those tracing ancestors the genealogy centre of the Borders is in the Heart of Hawick www.heartofhawick.co.uk All of the Borders archives are held here and if you pre book some of the work can be done before you arrive. This is a mainly free resource and you only pay for copying.

Golf

Golf is an attraction to our area and we have numerous golf clubs that are available to visitors including the Schloss Roxburghe Hotel and Golf Course and Cardrona in Peeblesshire and gives you a chance to see more of the Borders.

Springwood Park

Springwood Park hosts a variety of events throughout the year, as well as the Border Union Show, Honda Goldwing motorcycles have had their Treffen here, a spectacle much enjoyed, the regular Championship Dog Show, many other dog shows, Scottish National Scooter Rally, the two Country and Western weekends, , regular Antique and Collectors Fairs, Wedding Fairs and of course the Ram Sales all take place in the showground.
Kelso has other events throughout the year, Kelso Races, “Britain’s friendliest course”, attracts many visitors, Civic Week and the Massed Pipebands at Floors Castle are all reasons to come.

The River Tweed

The River Tweed is famous for its salmon fishing and the Junction Pool, the meeting place of the River Tweed and River Teviot, is one of the most sought after places to fish. A leisurely half hour can be spent on the old bridge watching the fishermen and admiring the view to Floors Castle.
